where it all began

At just 14 years old, Phil Lindwedel got his start at his brother’s store, Vincent’s Jewelers, in River Roads Mall. What began as sonic cleaning, steaming jewelry, and filing papers quickly turned into a passion. Throughout high school, Phil stayed close to the business—learning the value of hard work, attention to detail, and genuine customer care.

Mastering the Craft

By his late teens, Phil was working full-time at Vincent’s downtown location in the Paul Brown Building. He progressed from polishing and casting to fully immersing himself in custom jewelry creation—cutting wax molds, setting stones, and handling every detail at the bench. In 1994, Phil earned his first GIA certification in Diamonds and Diamond Grading, solidifying his expertise.

A Store of His Own & A Growing Family

Phil co-founded Phillip John Jewelers in Clayton, MO—bringing family values into every part of the business, from staff to customers. In 1996, he married Antoinette (Anti) Lindwedel. Together they raised three children—Sam (1998), Tony (2001), and Anna (2004)—while building a reputation for custom design, in-house repairs, and personalized service.

A New Chapter in Old Webster

When redevelopment forced the closure of their Clayton location, Phil and Anti took a leap of faith - opening Lindwedel Jewelers at 136 W Lockwood Ave in April 2008, right in the heart of Webster Groves and at the peak of a recession.

As Phil managed both the shop and bench work - while quietly facing the progression of MS - Anti stepped away from her career to help grow the business. Her outgoing energy and background in personal service shaped the welcoming, relaxed atmosphere customers know today.

Together, Phil and Anti balanced the challenges of running a family business, raising three children, and navigating uncertainty with resilience, heart, and a deep commitment to their community.

The Next Generation

Phil and Anti’s son, Sam Lindwedel, officially joined the business, bringing a modern touch to custom design through advanced technology and visualization tools. While evolving the store to meet today’s needs, Sam has stayed true to the core values his parents built - personal service, integrity, and treating every customer like family.

Putting Down Permanent Roots

In 2024, Lindwedel Jewelers took an exciting step forward by purchasing the building the store has proudly called home in Webster Groves. This milestone reflects the family’s long-term commitment to the community and the customers who have supported the business for generations.

Establishing permanent roots allows Lindwedel Jewelers to continue growing, investing in the customer experience, and serving the greater St. Louis area with confidence for years to come. More than just a location, the storefront represents stability, gratitude, and a promise to remain a trusted part of Webster Groves well into the future.

Looking Ahead - Continuing the Family Tradition

As Lindwedel Jewelers looks toward the future, Phil and Anti’s second son, Tony Lindwedel, has begun taking a more active role in the business. With a strong desire to build on the foundation his parents created, Tony is focused on helping the store continue to grow while enhancing the overall customer experience.

In addition to working with customers and supporting daily operations, Tony is also learning bench jewelry work — developing the hands-on skills and attention to detail that have long defined Lindwedel craftsmanship. At the same time, he is helping introduce evolving design technology and visualization tools that allow customers to better explore ideas and preview their jewelry before it is created.

With the next generation continuing to step forward, Lindwedel Jewelers remains committed to blending trusted tradition with thoughtful innovation. The Lindwedel family looks forward to proudly serving the Webster Groves and greater St. Louis community for many years to come.
